Residents at Wing-based care home, Carey Lodge, in Buckinghamshire surprised the support team with a thoughtful gesture during National Carers Week.
More than 100 members of the team at the care home, received a hand-made card created by resident, Doreen Groves, which featured a poem penned by fellow residents as an expression of thanks.
Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlighting the challenges carers face and to recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK.
Employees at the care home also received a ‘Carer’s Survival Kit’ including a series of little treasures to symbolise the value of the work they do, such as a paperclip (to help carers to hold it all together) a Love Heart sweet (to remind them they are loved) and a candle (to recognise how many lives they light up), to name but a few items.
Service manager, Clare Hedge delivered a speech at the event to show appreciation for the work of the caring team, and residents and employees enjoyed a delicious home-made cake created by the care home’s chef.
Local music teacher, Jill Neenan also joined the get together to play a selection of songs on the piano.
Commenting on the event, service manager, Clare Hedge, said:
We have used Carers Week as an opportunity to show appreciation for the support provided by our team. The residents went out of their way to make this event so special with thoughtful gestures as an expression of how much they value the relationships they have with their carers. It really was very touching.
