The Cherries team with Junior Walker

Now a staple on the care provider and charity’s calendar, The Indoor Carpet Bowls Cup came to a resounding close with The Cherries (Cherry Garth Care Home) team scooping the title against The Tornadoes – a team made up of the charity’s trustees.

The Trust’s indoor carpet bowls tournament is an annual inter-care home contest that takes place over the course of activity sessions during the year, concluding in an event which sees the champion care home team taking on a dedicated team put forward by its board of trustees.

The final took place at Cherry Garth care home in Holmer Green, where five residents and employees from the Trust went head to head with four trustee members in a bid to claim the trophy.

In the event, The Cherries won by a clear margin of 10 points taking the wind out of The Tornadoes’ sails with a final scoreline of 34 – 24.

Cherry Garth’s chef manager Osei Kuffour ensured the teams were well fed with a delicious spread to round off the event, following the medal presentation.

Commenting on the tournament, Junior Walker, leisure and lifestyle manager and event organiser at The Fremantle Trust, said:

“While it was a hotly contested finale, there was a lot of fun to be had by all. The event is a favourite on our activity calendar and the excitement is tangible as we get closer to the final. It was a great performance by The Cherries and a well-deserved win!”

Diane Kerwood, trustee at The Fremantle Trust, added:

“The Indoor Carpet Bowls Cup is a great initiative that brings residents, employees and trustees together. While there is a healthy sense of competition it’s also an opportunity for people to engage in an enjoyable activity that promotes hand – eye coordination and is a wonderfully inclusive sport. The tournament is an excellent way of reinforcing the sense of community that is central to our culture at the Trust.”
