Robin Comerford has joined The Fremantle Trust as a regional director for its older people’s services across Bucks and north London.
With a passion for ensuring quality of life and wellbeing for older people, especially in dementia care, Robin joins the Trust having held regional operational roles with Bupa Care Services and Barchester Healthcare. More recently he was responsible for developing foodservice offerings to the care sector with Elior UK.
He was attracted to the role at the Trust after regular visits to its Wing-based residential home, Carey Lodge, where his 94 year old aunt is a resident. He has witnessed her transformation in the past three years, which he believes is down to being part of a kind and supportive community of people, committed to providing high quality, person-centred care.
In his new role Robin is responsible for the safety and wellbeing of residents, as well as supporting home managers and their teams and ensuring strict adherence to CQC regulations. He also looks after business performance, ensuring the organisation is commercially sound, providing a robust foundation to deliver care to exacting standards.
With a full and varied career history, Robin spent 10 years as a TA officer, which taught him to lead and motivate people in challenging situations, and he has also enjoyed a lasting affiliation with the Scout Association. He developed solid commercial and managerial expertise after time working in roles with Shell UK Oil and also at a global project management firm. He cites his time spent in the care sector as the most rewarding, offering the opportunity to make a tangible difference to lives.
Commenting on his appointment, Robin said: This is an exciting chapter in my career, with an organisation that recognises the importance of putting resident wellbeing at the core of its strategy. It’s great to be part of a team of visionary people who are clearly passionate about what they do.
Chief executive of The Fremantle Trust, Steve Flanagan, added: We’re thrilled to welcome Robin as a senior professional with a sound understanding of the care sector and the challenges it faces, coupled with commercial acumen and excellent leadership skills. He will no doubt be a great asset to our team moving forward.
Robin lives in Leighton Buzzard and is married with two children. With a love of the outdoors, he is an adventurer who enjoys wild camping and hiking.
