Chefs and residents at The Fremantle Trust are working together to have a fun Christmas, backed up by a top rating for food and hygiene across the board.
Development chef at the Trust, Jude Watts, said:
Our chefs and residents come together to prepare culinary delights and traditional bakes, which brings plenty of Christmas spirit and everyone feels like they have a part to play.
Residents and members of the activity teams have thoroughly embraced the tradition of making and decorating Christmas cakes with a seasonal ‘Bake Off’ event. Lewin House in Aylesbury won the ‘Best Tasting Cake’ category, while Fremantle Court care home in Stoke Mandeville won the title of ‘Best Overall Cake’.
Resident Jean Smith from Carey Lodge care home in Wing said:
I have fond memories of making Christmas cakes so to be able to do this has kept this special tradition alive. We had lots of discussions around the ingredients and the approach, but the recipe is a secret so we’ll be keeping it that way!
The Trust has another reason to celebrate this Christmas as all of their care homes for older people have achieved the highest rating of 5 for food and hygiene from the Food Standards Agency.
Jude added:
We’re thrilled to have received this rating. I’m really proud of the team of chefs and employees here who work hard to ensure we offer consistently high quality food for everyone to enjoy.
Our chefs enjoy visiting residents at meal times to get feedback on the food and ideas for new menus. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing residents enjoy nutritious, home-cooked food whilst socialising with fellow residents.
