At Mulberry Court, our vibrant community thrives on activities that bring joy and make a difference. Recently, residents Frances and Doreen have been diligently knitting squares and crocheting them into blankets during our fortnightly knitting group. These beautiful handmade blankets were donated to the RSPCA, providing much-needed comfort to cats awaiting new homes.
The knitting group welcomed a special guest, Jean Gardener, a representative from the RSPCA, who joined us for a morning session. Jean explained the charity’s work and how these blankets are important in their fostering system. The blankets help to soothe and provide a sense of security to the cats, making their transition to new homes smoother and more comforting.
We were also delighted to have representatives from the Local Age Concern GX Knitting Group, Valerie Robbins and Maureen Swattery, who knitted many blankets for donation to the RSPCA. The atmosphere was filled with warmth and camaraderie as everyone enjoyed tea, homemade cake, and lively conversations. The topic of pets, both current and from the past, sparked nostalgic and heartwarming stories among the group.
Resident Doreen expressed the collective sentiment perfectly:
It’s lovely to be able to donate something we have made to a deserving charity and share that with members of our community.” Her words resonate deeply, highlighting the joy and fulfilment that comes from giving back.
Jean Gardener of the RSPCA conveyed her heartfelt thanks,
Thank you so much for the beautifully knitted blankets. We rely on donations as a charity, and these are perfect to make our cats feel safe and comfortable.
The knitting group provides an opportunity for creativity and socialising and fosters a sense of purpose by contributing to a worthy cause. We are incredibly proud of our residents and their dedication to making a positive impact in the community.
