Residents at Lewin House found themselves immersed in the magic of words during a special National Poetry Day event. With poet Mary Hale leading the way, the day was filled with laughter, memories, and the joy of new connections—reminding everyone that Lewin House is truly a home full of heart.
Life here is about building new connections, discovering hidden talents, and finding joy in the simple pleasure of being part of a vibrant, welcoming community. At The Fremantle Trust, we put our hearts into creating homes where every resident can feel seen, heard, and engaged in ways that truly matter to them.
This was perfectly captured during our recent National Poetry Day celebration at Lewin House Nursing Home in Aylesbury, where we welcomed poet Mary Hale to share an afternoon of verse and storytelling. Mary’s visit was supported by the Queens Park Arts Centre in Aylesbury and became one of those unexpected joys. She brought her beautiful poetry, including a heartfelt ode to the seaside, and classics by legends like T. S. Eliot.
The magic of the afternoon wasn’t just in the words—it was in how they brought our residents together. Residents who hadn’t shared a story in a while suddenly found themselves reminiscing and discussing the imagery Mary’s poems brought to life. There was laughter, movement as people reacted to the rhythm, and a warmth that filled the room. It reminded us that no matter where life takes us, there’s always room for new connections and experiences.
Philip, a resident of Lewin House, summed it up perfectly when he said,
“I enjoyed it very much! It was something new.”
That’s the beauty of life at Lewin House—there’s always something new on the horizon. Our lifestyle and wellbeing programmes are designed to offer endless opportunities for socialising, discovering new passions, and finding moments of connection. Whether it’s poetry, art, music, or even a good old-fashioned game of bingo, we believe that staying active and engaged is key to feeling connected and fulfilled.
Mary Hale, who joined us from the Queens Park Arts Centre, couldn’t help but notice the warm atmosphere that makes Lewin House so unique. She shared,
“Lewin House has a lovely atmosphere.” And she’s right. There’s a special energy here, a sense that life is still full of surprises waiting to be uncovered.
We know that moving into a new place can feel daunting, especially if you worry that the days of making new friends or enjoying life’s little adventures are behind you. But at Lewin House, we’re showing every day that those worries can melt away. Our community is full of life, with residents who are rediscovering how good it feels to connect with others, to try something new, and to be a part of a place that celebrates every moment.
