Meet Nikki, a Wellbeing Companion at Fremantle Court, where she spends her days bringing a sense of calm and comfort to the residents. But Nikki’s role is more than just a job—it’s a calling that combines her unique skills and personal journey with a deep commitment to making life a little brighter for the people she cares for.

Nikki’s journey into the world of Reiki began more than a decade ago. Now, as a Reiki Master, Nikki brings a sense of peace to her work at Fremantle Court. For the past 2 ½ years, she’s been offering Reiki sessions to residents who are curious about the practice. For many residents, it’s a new experience, but one they’ve come to look forward to.

Reiki is an ancient technique used for stress reduction and relaxation and has been shown to have several benefits for both physical and mental health.  It is a gentle non-invasive therapy that involves the practitioner gently placing their hands on or near the body.

“I think it’s a perfect fit for this environment,” Nikki explains. “A lot of the residents I see spend a lot of time in their rooms or bed, and Reiki offers them a way to just relax for a little while, to find some peace in their day.”

One of those residents is Brenda, who quickly became a regular. “I get very anxious easily,” Brenda shares, “but after spending half an hour with Nikki, I feel much more relaxed and able to cope. It’s very special to me, and so is Nikki. She’s been such a comfort since I’ve been here.”

Nikki sees several residents each week for a session that lasts up to 30 minutes. For Nikki, it’s not about trying to work miracles or make big changes. It’s about those small moments of connection, where she and the residents can find calm together. “It’s not about healing,” Nikki says with a smile. “It’s just about being present with them, offering that time, and seeing the difference it makes—even if it’s just a little.”

Fremantle Court is a place where this kind of care thrives. It’s a community that understands well-being is more than just looking after physical needs. It’s about creating a space where residents feel truly valued and staff like Nikki are encouraged to bring their skills and passions to the table. These little touches—like Nikki’s Reiki sessions—help make Fremantle Court feel like a home from home.

For the residents, it’s not just about the relaxation they find during the sessions; it’s being cared for, and being seen and heard. Nikki’s dedication is just one example of how the team at Fremantle Court goes the extra mile to ensure that every resident has those special moments that make each day a little better.

Nikki puts it best: “I never thought that something that meant so much to me would end up being such a big part of my work here. It’s rewarding to see how much the residents enjoy it, and to know that I am helping them feel a bit more comfortable and at ease.”
