It’s the little things that make the biggest difference.

Chesham Leys Nursing Home is more than just a care home, we’re a vibrant and supportive community where residents are encouraged to pursue their personal goals and continue making a difference in the world around them. Our person-centred approach ensures that every resident feels valued and supported in living life to the fullest.

When our resident Margaret set out to do something meaningful, our team and fellow residents came together to bring her vision to life.

Margaret has always been passionate about knitting, especially creating tiny baby hats. She used her skills to support the Rothschild Ward Maternity Unit at Stoke Mandeville Hospital by knitting hats for newborns. Our clinical manager, Lynette, stepped up to help sew the hats together, while residents in our weekly Knit and Natter group joined in to knit squares for blankets.

Margaret’s dedication was supported by The Ducklings Trust, a charity set up to raise money for equipment and help improve the environment in the maternity units at Stoke Mandeville and Wycombe hospitals. Margaret was delighted to learn that her handmade gifts would provide warmth and comfort to premature babies, while also becoming cherished keepsakes for new mothers.

At Chesham Leys Nursing Home in Chesham, we know that purpose and meaningful engagement are key to a fulfilling life. Whether knitting for a cause, learning something new, or simply enjoying time with others, we are dedicated to ensuring our residents live with purpose.

Kimberley, Midwife in Charge at the maternity unit, expressed her gratitude:

Thank you so much, we appreciate everything that is knitted and donated, it is such a special time for the mothers of the babies we deliver, and these donations help to create lasting memories with babies first hat they get to take home with them.

For Margaret, the experience was deeply rewarding:

It was lovely being able to hand deliver the baby hats that I knitted and to see that they make a difference, it gives me a warm feeling inside.
