At Fremantle Trust, our gardens are more than just spaces – they are a vibrant expression of our community spirit and dedication to wellbeing. Each February, the anticipation begins as residents eagerly gather to plan their entries for the Fremantle in Bloom competition. What follows is a heartwarming journey of collaboration and creativity, as our weekly gardening clubs transform our gardens into sensory havens filled with beauty and life.

Our gardening clubs have become cherished events where residents and staff come together, potting, painting, and nurturing their green spaces. The idea for Fremantle in Bloom blossomed from these gatherings, turning our once plain gardens into captivating sensory experiences. The enthusiasm is palpable, with everyone keen to beautify their surroundings and compete for the coveted trophies.

Gardening offers an array of benefits for our older residents and those living with dementia. The physical activity, social engagement, and sheer joy of watching plants grow provide stress relief, boost self-esteem, and improve mental health. The introduction of the Best Sensory Garden category ensures our gardens are dementia-friendly, featuring vibrant colours, aromatic smells, and soothing sounds.

Edible gardens have also taken root in our community. Residents delight in growing their vegetables, fruits, and herbs which our kitchen staff use to create delicious meals. These gardens have become beloved spaces for relaxation, socialising, bird watching, outdoor sports, and enjoying al fresco meals.

This year, the excitement culminates in a special awards ceremony on Wednesday, 31 July 2024 at Icknield Court Care Home in Princes Risborough, which proudly celebrates its 10th anniversary. Adding to the joy, the Town Mayor Neil Rawsthorne will present the awards, highlighting the significance of this event.

Fremantle in Bloom is more than just a competition – it’s a celebration of togetherness, creativity, and the warmth of community, where every garden tells a story of care, companionship, and thriving friendships.
