As a graduate of the Medical University in Sofia, Bulgaria with a degree in Health and Social Care, along with her extensive knowledge of Pulmonary Disease, Katie has a wealth of experience working in the Social Care sector.
Her career with The Fremantle Trust started at Cherry Garth care home in Holmer Green where she worked with the team as a relief nurse. A transfer across to Lewin House in Aylesbury saw Katie progress within her role, moving from Staff Nurse to Unit Manager and Clinical Lead, to her current role as Home Manager.
“I am passionate about care and am dedicated to the residents at Lewin House, their relatives and my team. I strive to consistently deliver outstanding care and to make a real difference to the quality of life for residents and their families.”
We spoke to Katie about her experience working as part of The Fremantle Trust. Here’s what she had to say:
What attracted you to a career in the care sector?
I was inspired by members of my family, many of whom chose careers in the medical profession - from doctors and pharmacists to nurses and dentists. Growing up around them steered me towards a career in the care sector, where I felt I would be contributing and supporting others.
What is your philosophy on care?
Providing competent, empathetic, compassionate and person-centred care for all our residents, embracing the differences and unique qualities of every individual and developing close relationships with relatives families and loved ones. For my team, I aim to instil values and beliefs of trustworthiness, respect, compassion and a continued hunger and willingness to learn.
What gets you out of bed each morning?
The desire to make positive changes (however small) every day in the lives of our residents and staff. And the smiles I see every day when I walk around Lewin House – these give me the drive and motivation I need.
What are you passionate about in your life?
Exploring the great outdoors, discovering new places – I love to travel - and more recently, I get a huge sense of satisfaction from working in my own garden and watching it bloom!
What makes you proud of Lewin House?
The team at Lewin House – their readiness and desire to challenge themselves and to embrace change. There is a fantastic culture here and the level of care and compassion impresses me every day. We really are one big family and there’s a real sense of belonging among us.
